“We must take a step against the war and the power of both sides in this conflict”

Aso Kamal is a Kurdish socialist and human rights activist

The war between the states of Israel and Iran paints a grim and realistic picture of a future filled with danger for the people of the Middle East. The rhetoric from both sides of this conflict is enough to reveal how two monstrous forces of capitalism in this region are the main actors and characters of this era of capitalist savagery, playing a central role in shaping a dark future—one marred by war, unrest, poverty, and crisis. This is the era of capitalist beasts, who today, through wars in Ukraine, Palestine, and the Middle East, seek to shift the balance of power among themselves in order to redraw spheres of influence and implement their economic and political projects.

This war is creating a political and military complexity in the region that makes the Gulf Wars of the 1990s seem simple in comparison—or even the war in Ukraine and Russia, where the battlefield dimensions are somewhat defined.

The Middle Eastern war, which began a year ago, has now escalated from the stage of proxy warfare by the Islamic Republic of Iran to a direct confrontation between Iran and the state of Israel. This signals the expectation of larger explosions, an expanding battlefield, and even greater economic, political, and social disasters to follow.

Although the economic interests of the global capitalist market and oil limit the immediate expansion of this brutal war—and none of the powerful states want strategic economic projects and energy resources in the region to come to a halt—the clash of interests over projects like China’s Silk Road or America’s “New Middle East” market (with Saudi Arabia and Israel as key partners) will be shaped under the fire of this war.

The infighting between these factions of the bourgeoisie and their governments over economic and political interests, as well as military dominance in the Middle East, has led to more sacrifices from the workers and impoverished people of the region—more killings, deeper poverty, and suppression of any resistance against the victory of injustice. The only way forward is liberation from these capitalist monsters ruling the region and the global capitalist powers.

What’s crucial today is that the working and oppressed people of Iran, Israel, and the Middle East stand against both warring factions. But we must recognise that these capitalist beasts will continue their war and crush any opposition to their warmongering authority. We must stand as an independent, united front of humanity against all sides of this era of global and regional capitalist savagery. We must take a step against the war and the power of both sides in this conflict. Only through this organised and united force can we protect our lives and avoid becoming victims of the savage wars of the capitalists.
